Islamabad: Afghan visa section sealed for issuing illegal passports
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik raided DG Passport Office here on Tuesday and ordered to seal its Afghan Visa Section for issuing illegal passports.
The minister ordered the arrest of two staffers for their alleged involvement in issuing illegal passports to Afghan nationals and confiscated the passports of Afghan nationals.
Malik also spotted a senior official hiding two illegal passports and suspended three staffers.
He also sought details of visas and passports issued to NGO’s and asked DG Passport Wajid Bukhari to submit a report about the passports issued in 24-hour and constituted a task force on visa issues, which will submit its report within two weeks.
The minister announced to increase the salaries of contract employees equal to permanent employees and to provide 11 new printers and lamination machines.
He also announced to enhance the capacity of staff in shifts to improve the working of the office. Talking to media persons on the occasion, the interior minister said that we have foiled almost one thousand would be suicide attacks and said that after killing of ‘Osama Bin Laden’ security has been tightened in the country especially in the Federal capital.
