NATO oil tanker blown up in Landikotal
LANDIKOTAL: An oil tanker, carrying fuel for the US-led NATO forces stationed in Afghanistan, was blown up near Ali Masjid in a bomb blast here on Tuesday, administration sources said.
The oil tanker was gutted completely, besides some nearby houses on the bank of the main road. Similarly, a general store was also destroyed due to a powerful bomb blast near Charwazgai checkpost in Landikotal on Monday night. However, no loss of human life was reported in both the blasts. The blast in the oil tanker led to traffic jam from Ali Masjid to Michni checkpost due to which ordinary passengers suffered a lot. Some of the passengers have demanded the Khyber political agent to issue strict orders to Khasadar Force officials to move from the lucrative checkposts to the sites where the road was blocked, so that they could manage the huge traffic. Some local people, while commenting on the blasts in Khyber Agency, opined that it was a reaction to the killing of al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden, adding that the tribal people were fortunate that the al Qaeda chief was killed in a peaceful city like Abbotabad rather than any restive tribal area. They feared that law and order situation might further worsen in the region following the killing of Osama Bin Laden by the US special forces.
