Islamabad: 2 given in FIA custody
ISLAMABAD: Senior Civil Judge Mohammad Aslam Gondal on Wednesday gave two employees of the immigration and passport office allegedly involved in a passport and visa scandal on three-day physical remand in the custody of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Rafaqat, an assistant, and Nisar, a lower division clerk, were arrested by FIA on May 3 on suspicion of corruption and forgery. The FIA presented the accused before the senior civil judge seeking 14 days’ remand to conduct investigations. The FIA team informed the court that two passports – OR-034208 and OA-744160 – had been recovered from the possession of the accused.
Scrutiny of record revealed that 27 visa stickers, from number VF-885274 to VF-885300, were missing from the section which was looked after by the two employees. The FIA investigation officer told the court that recovery of the visa stickers and facts about the two passports necessitated that the accused be remanded in their custody. The judge allowed only three days’ remand with the direction to the FIA to produce the accused before him on May 7.
