Naïve cops knifed in Pindora
RAWALPINDI: Robbers hiding in a house in Pindora attacked with knife four policemen sent to arrest them but the policemen succeeded in arresting the knife-wielder, police said on Wednesday. Three other robbers however escaped while all four policemen ended up in a hospital where one of them had to undergo surgery.
Police sources said that constables Ashiq, Zahid, Maqsood and Samiullah arrived at the house unarmed and without handcuffs. Their mission was jointly planned by the RA Bazaar and New Town police stations on the strength of information extracted from a suspect in their custody.
According to the suspect, his gang members were staying in a room of the house. The landlady of the house told Dawn she had rented it out to four men about a month ago. She said she did not inquire much about the tenants but asked them to vacate after noticing that there numbers had been increasing. She said one policeman in the raiding party was in uniform while other three were in plain clothes.
Police said as the party entered the room, three gang members bolted but the policemen overpowered the fourth one, identified as Kashif and “a body-builder”.
Kashif requested his captors to allow him to take out his money from his trunk. Instead he took out a khanjar – a big knife – and slashed all four policemen. Constable Ashiq was hurt most and underwent surgery at the Holy Family Hospital, according to police.
