Target killing claims four more lives in Karachi
KARACHI: Target killing claimed four more lives on Thursday, including one activist each of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ), Sunni Tehreek (ST), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) and People’s Student Federation (PSF), in different parts of the metropolis.
A sector in-charge of ASWJ was gunned down while two activists were injured within the remits of North Nazimabad police station. The incident took place at Khando Goth, North Nazimabad near Mubeen Clinic where 32-year-old sector Incharge Haji Masood-ur-Rehman was sitting with Laiq Ahmed and Habibullah.
Unidentified motorcyclists arrived and shot at the three indiscriminately. Resultantly, Rehman died on the spot, while the other two received injuries. The body and injured were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities and treatment. The deceased was a resident of North Nazimabad block-B. Later, police claimed to have arrested a man, Ijlal Hussain, on the suspicion of Rehman’s murder. SP Asad Ali giving the details of arrest said that the police are interrogating the suspect.
Separately, an activist of ST was gunned down in Narainpura within the precincts of Eidgah police station. Salamuddin 23, alias Shahzad Lahoti was going to buy milk from a milk shop near his residence when two unidentified armed men arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire. Salam received one bullet in his chest and the other in head and died on the spot. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medico-legal formalities. Tension immediately engulfed the surrounding areas and heavy aerial firing was reported as some unidentified miscreants forced the shop keepers to pull their shutters down. Meanwhile, Rangers personnel reached and opened fire on the frantic miscreants injuring an activist of ST, Mahmood 25, and a passeryby, Shabbir. Rangers claimed that they arrested Mahmood and recovered a TT pistol from his possession. ST spokesman Faheem Sheikh confirmed that the deceased was an activist of unit-27 Ranchore Line sector.
In another incident, a pesh imam and an activist of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) was shot dead near Mubarak Masjid within the jurisdiction of Mochko police station. The victim, 32-year-old Atta-ur-Rehman son of Mimbar Shah was sitting near Mubarak Masjid when unidentified armed men reached and opened fire. He received two bullets and died on the spot. The body was transported to CHK for an autopsy. No case could be registered till filing of this report.
Police found a body of a youth from an abandoned plot in Altaf Nagar within the precincts of Manghopir police station. The victim was identified as Abdul Wahab son of Mustaqeem, a resident of Orangi Town Sector 11–1/2. SHO Ghulam Ahmed Sheikh said that the victim was an activist of PSF and had received three bullets adding that he was kidnapped three days ago.
