Attock: Smuggled goods seized
ATTOCK, May 9: The police here on Monday foiled a bid to smuggle foreign goods, including clothes and cigarettes worth Rs5 million, from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Punjab.
On a tip-off, the police tried to stop a Lahore-bound bus (LWA-6374) coming from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa near Hazro interchange. However, the driver sped away. When the police chased the vehicle, the alleged smugglers opened fire on it.
As the police intercepted the bus near Qutba village on G.T. Road, a brief encounter took place after which the smugglers escaped, leaving the vehicle behind.
The police recovered about 306 cartons/bags of foreign-made clothes, cigarettes, perfumes, cosmetics and other items worth about Rs5 million from the bus.
The police said they handed over the seized items to the customs authorities for further action.
