Islamabad: Rs2 million bank robbery in Markaz I-9
ISLAMABAD: A sense of insecurity prevails in the Industrial Area Zone as it has become a safe haven for criminals. Incidents of mobile phone and purse snatching have become a matter of routine, but most victims do not lodge any complaint with the police station.
In a fresh hit by a daring gang of robbers, more than four gunmen looted a bank in Markaz I-9 in broad daylight on Tuesday after wounding its security guard and holding staff members and customers at gunpoint.
Sources in police told ‘The News’ that four men entered into the Alfalah Bank Limited in Markaz I-9 and snatched the gun from the guard, Abdul Majid, after torturing him.
Police said the robbers locked the security guard in the kitchen and some staff members in the bathroom. The intruders looted over two million rupees from the cash counter and escaped from the scene.
Police, quoting an eyewitness, said that the dacoits were unarmed but they snatched the gun from the guard and used it in the looting. Police said that the dacoits were cleared after body search by a security guard deployed at the main gate.
People interviewed by ‘The News’ said that the crime situation has been worsening in the Industrial Area. According to them, people feel insecure even inside their homes.
People said that street crimes not only take place in the dark and deserted streets, but also in broad daylight in busy markets and boulevards.
