Violence, mishaps claim 5 lives in Karachi
KARACHI: Five people died in separate incidents of violence and mishaps, which occurred in different areas of the metropolis on Tuesday. An elderly man was shot dead while resisting a robbery bid near Abdullah College within the remits of Sharah-e-Noor Jehan police station.
The victim Zafar Salman, 65, son of Sultan was a resident of Block-P Hussain D’Silva Town, North Nazimabad. He was travelling in a car with his brother when two armed motorcyclists intercepted them near Abdullah College and tried to snatch their mobile phones. The bandits shot Salman on offering resistance and fled with a cell phone and Rs 3,000 cash. Salman was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Police informed that the victim was a father of three and an FIR (222/11) against unidentified culprits on the complaint of victim’s brother has been lodged.
Separately, police found a five-day-old torture-marked body from Janjhar Goth within the precincts of Sohrab Goth police station. The identity of victim is yet to be ascertained while the body was spotted in the bushes. DSP Iftikhar Lodhi said that the body was five days old and victim was a drug addict. It was shifted to the ASH for post mortem and later moved to the Edhi morgue for identification purpose.
In another incident, a teenager was crushed to death near Safora Goth within the limits of Sacchal police station. The victim 13-year-old Osama son of Khadim was a resident of Race Course Road and as he crossed the road two speedy buses collided and struck him while swaying. The body was shifted to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities. Police have arrested both drivers responsible for the mishap.
A man was victimised by a stray bullet near Hassan Square within the limits of PIB Colony police station. The victim 35-year-old Harjee son of Pirtal was a resident of Haji Mureed Goth, Khamosh Colony, Liaquatabad. He was going home in a G-19 minibus when a stray bullet hit him in the back. He was shifted to the ASH for medical treatment where he succumbed to injuries. No case could be registered till filing of this report.
Separately, a man was shot dead while resisting a robbery bid, near Malir Naddi within the remits of Memon Goth police station. The victim 32-year-old Adil son of Jumman was a resident of Malir Memon Goth. He was on his way to home when two bandits intercepted him with the intention to rob. The victim offered resistance on which one of the bandits shot him and fled with his accomplice. Resultantly, he died on the spot. The victim was a labourer by profession and hailed from Interior Sindh. The body was shifted to the JPMC for legal formalities. No case could be registered till filing of this report.
