Karachi: Rs 3.7 million looted from bank in just 55 seconds
KARACHI: At least three unidentified armed robbers looted Rs 3.7 million from a bank in a broad daylight here on Wednesday.
They completed their robbery operation in just 55 seconds and fled to unknown destination. The incident occurred at 01:04pm at a bank situated at Chamra Chowrangi within the Korangi Industrial Area police station jurisdiction.
SP Usman Ghani said five armed men entered a bank and one of them started beating up a security guard while the rest of the robbers held the staff as hostage at gunpoint, adding they looted Rs 3.7 million from a cash counter and completed their operation in just 55 seconds.
The SP said security camera system was working properly, which had recorded the footages of robbers, adding that they were conducting investigation into the case along with bank staff.
Police have registered a case on the complaint of bank manager Masood and initiated a probe into the case.
In another incident, police foiled a bank heist along II Chundrigar Road after an encounter in which a police constable and a robber were injured.
Receiving information that three bandits were present near a bank at II Chandigar Road with weapons, Mithadar and Special Investigation Unit police rushed to the scene.
The bandits opened fire on them. The police retaliated the fire that triggered encounter in which a police constable Zubair received bullet injuries.
After brief encounter, police arrested a bandit Rahim in injured condition while his two compliances managed to flee. Police claimed that they had recovered a TT pistol from his possession.
The detained bandit received three bullets. Police shifted him to the Civil Hospital Karachi where his condition was stated to be critical.
