Karachi: 4 lose life in target killing, mishaps in metropolis
KARACHI: Four people were killed in separate incidents of target killing and mishaps in different parts of the metropolis on Thursday. A cooking oil supplier was killed in Tauheed Colony, Orangi Town within the limits of Iqbal Market police station. Qamar Abbas, 30, son of Talib Hussain, was going in a pickup when unidentified armed men opened fire on him at Sector 11½, Block L, Tauheed Colony, resultantly he received a bullet injury in his head. Police rushed him to the Qatar Hospital and later shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) where he succumbed to the bullet injury during treatment.
SP Khurram Waris said the victim was the resident of Rahim Shah area, Orangi Town and use to supply cooking oil in different area of Orangi Town. The victim had no affiliation with any political party, however, the personal enmity might be the motive behind the incident, he said.
In other incident, an activist of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was shot dead near Shaban Goth near Bakra Piri in the limits of Malir City police station. The victim was later identified as 28-year-Tanveer, son of Dad Mohammad, resident of Mehboob Manzil, Malir. The police found his body from bushes near Bakra Piri, Shaban Goth and shifted it to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico legal formalities.
Police officials said unidentified culprits kidnapped him from unknown place, killed, threw his body and fled. They said the police found a card from the victim’s pocket and said he was a PPP activist but the party officials did not confirm his affiliation.
Separately, a cashier of petrol pump was killed in the firing by a security guard in Shadman Town within the remits of Taimuria police station. Hassan, 22, resident of Islamia Colony was counting cash at a petrol pump in Shadman Town, Sector 15-A-4, North Karachi when a rifle went off while cleaning by a security guard, Ubaid. As a result, a bullet hit and killed the cashier on the spot. SHO Imran Zaidi said the police arrested the guard and shifted his body to the ASH for legal formalities.
Similarly, a security guard was killed in the firing by another guard in the limits of Defence police station. Two security guards deployed at a bungalow in Defence Phase I, Street No 4 were sitting outside the gate where one of the security guards, Rafique, started cleaning his riffle which went off. As a result, a bullet hit another guard Aurangzaib, 45, son of Fazal Rehman, and killed him on the spot. SHO Ejaz Khawaja said police had arrested the responsible guard and shifted the body to the JPMC for legal formalities. The victim was the resident of Zia Colony, Korangi and hailed from Hazara, he said. Police have registered a case against Rafiq on the complaint of the victim’s son and initiated further probe into the case.
