Lahore: 4 people, including minor girl, killed in provincial capital
LAHORE: Four people, including a minor girl, were killed in various incidents in the provincial capital on Thursday. A man, identified as Shaukat, clubbed his three-year-old daughter to death apparently to please his new wife who disliked the child. The incident took place in the Sabzazar police precincts.
The deceased was identified as Maheen. The child was living with her father and stepmother near Kharak Stop, as her real mother had died a while back.
According to police, Shaukat had killed his daughter after torturing her. They said Maheen’s father used to club her in the past as well, especially after he married again. On the day of the incident, Shaukat started torturing his daughter, eventually clubbing her to death. Police have registered a murder case against the accused and have arrested him.
Separately, in an exchange of fire between two rival groups a 35-year-old man was killed while his servant received serious injuries in the Badami Bagh police precincts.
The deceased was identified as Akbar Butt a resident of Badami Bagh. His injured servant was identified as Adil. Police said that the groups, Butt Group and Haji Ilyas Group, had an enmity for the past many years, which had already claimed the lives of several members of both the families.
On the day of the incident, the deceased and his servant were going somewhere when their rivals opened fire on them. Butt died on the spot while Adil was rushed to a nearby hospital, where his condition was said to be out of danger. Police have registered a case on the complaint of the deceased’s wife, Yasmin, against Haji Ilyas, Anjum and two other unidentified people with no arrests made so far.
In another incident, a 35-year-old man was gunned down and a labourer was injured upon resisting a dacoity in the Shahdra police precincts.
The deceased was identified as Rashid, a contractor of an under-construction plaza. The injured was identified as Azam, a labourer, who worked at the under-construction plaza. Police said both the men were sleeping in the plaza when some dacoits came inside the building and demanded cash and valuables from them. When Rashid and Azam resisted, the dacoits opened fire on them. As a result, both sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital where Rashid was pronounced dead while the condition of Azam was also said to be serious.
Also, a 28-year-old man was injured by dacoits upon offering resistance near the Raiwind city police precincts. The injured was identified as Shahbaz. Police said that Shahbaz was on his way somewhere when two dacoits intercepted him and demanded valuables from him.
Shahbaz exchanged harsh words with them upon which the dacoits opened fire on him and fled away. The injured was shifted to a nearby hospital where his condition was said to be out of danger.
In another development, a 45-year-old man was found dead in the Lower Mall police precincts. The deceased, yet to be identified, was lying dead near Data Darbar. A passerby spotted the body and informed the police about it. Police reached the spot and removed the body to the city morgue. Police suspected that the victim was a drug addict and had died due to overuse. Police made several announcements in the local mosques but no one came to claim the dead body.
