Lahore: Robbers kill man on resistance
LAHORE: A 35-year-old man was shot dead and a labourer was injured on resistance during a dacoity attempt near Flower Market in the Shahdra police area on Thursday morning.
The deceased was identified as Rashid, a contractor of an under-construction plaza. The injured man was identified as Azam, a labourer, who worked at the plaza.
According to reports, both victims were asleep in the plaza when armed dacoits stormed into the building and demanded valuables and cash from them. When they offered resistance, the dacoits opened fire on them. As a result, both sustained injuries and were shifted to hospital where doctors pronounced Rashid dead while the condition of Azam was stated to be critical.
Later, dozens of residents and shopkeepers of the area gathered at the main road near the market and staged a strong protest demonstration against the police. The protesters blocked the road by setting the tyres on fire, creating worst traffic jumble in the densely populated area. Police officials reached the spot and managed to disperse after holding a series of negotiations with them. Police have also removed the body to the morgue for autopsy.
