Police chief suspended for criminal activity
LAHORE: The provincial police chief has suspended from service a deputy superintendent of police for allegedly favouring a man involved in a criminal case.
Malik Tahir Awan, senior accounts manager of an intercity transport company, said in his complaint to the ombudsman that he got a criminal case registered with the Gulberg police against his company`s former country general manager Inam Ali Sheikh after he embezzled company funds. He said the police department appointed Chuhng Circle DSP Mansoor Qamar to look into the charges against Sheikh. He said Qamar favoured Sheikh, pressurised the company management to compromise with the accused and influenced the investigation.
The ombudsman ordered an inquiry against the DSP, found his conduct “highly questionable” and asked the provincial police chief to suspend him. Consequently, the police chief suspended the DSP and initiated a departmental inquiry against him.
