Bomb blast at Torkham destroys 5 oil tankers
LANDI KOTAL: Five oil tankers taking fuel supplies for the Nato forces in Afghanistan were reduced to ashes when a powerful bomb exploded at Torkham border parking lot Friday night, official and local sources said.
The sources said unknown people had planted a time device with an oil tanker, which went off at 7:45 pm. The tanker caught fire after the blast, which engulfed four other oil- tankers and reduced to ashes, the sources said. Dozens of Nato oil tankers were waiting for documents clearance at the private parking lot at Torkham border when the blast took place, the sources added.
However, dozens of other Nato oil tankers remained safe because these were standing at a distance from the oil tankers that caught fire, a Khassadar told The News. Soon after the blast, the security forces and Khassadar personnel along with the fire- brigade rushed to the site and cordoned off the parking lot and the road leading to Torkham border and Landikotal.
The firebrigade controlled the fire after hectic efforts of two hours, the sources said. The Torkham-Landikotal road was closed for traffic to avoid further damages, as the flames of the fire were spreading around.
