Rawalpindi: 2 commit suicide; one killed
RAWALPINDI: Two persons committed suicide while a woman was killed in separate incidents here on Friday, police said. In the first incident, Ms Surraya 35, who was divorced and residing with her parents in Gulzar-i-Quaid Colony committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room on Friday night.
She had a 10-year-old daughter who was living with her. In her letter, she said she was in distress due to her prevailing condition. Ms Surraya was doing law from International Islamic University as a private candidate.
In another incident, Ms Rafay, 45, was gunned down by her brother over property dispute in Gawalmandi area. After the divorce, she was living with her parents.
On Friday she had a quarrel with her brother over the distribution of property. During the exchange of hot words, her brother Babar got infuriated and pulled out his pistol and shot her dead before escaping. Meanwhile, a man committed suicide in Dhoke Khabba on Friday.
The family sources said Abdul Ghaffar, 55, had been facing financial problems for the last many months as he was unable to pay the debt he had taken to meet his domestic expenditure some months back. He even could not afford to pay the house rent. He had also hired a taxi to earn his livelihood.
The police investigating officer quoted his wife as saying that since the lenders started visiting the house and demanded their money from her husband, he began to feel severe headache due to distress.
On Friday morning, his wife found him hanging in his room. The victim was shifted to the DHQ hospital where he was pronounced dead. Later, the victim`s body was handed over to his family. At the hospital, moving scenes were witnessed when none of his family members had money to pay the fare of the ambulance and even to buy coffin for him.
The investigation officer said though the victim had three sons and two daughters, they had no money to buy coffin for their father. He said a well-off person, who requested not to be named, paid the ambulance fare and arranged coffin for the victim.
