KALAYA: A soldier and 10 militants were killed in a clash triggered after the forces repulsed a pre-dawn attack on a checkpost in upper parts of Orakzai Agency, tribal and official sources said on Friday.
The sources said the militants attacked the security checkpost in Dabori area, about 28 kilometre north of Ghaljo, the administrative headquarters of upper tehsil of Orakzai, killing a security person and injuring two others.
The sources said that the forces repulsed the attack and killed 10 militants. Four militants were injured in the retaliatory fire. The slain soldier was identified as Usman while the injured included Havaldar Ijaz and Ashraf.
The sources added after the incident, the security forces launched search operation in Arhang, Zakhtun and Gandital areas in Orakzai Agency and cleared several landmines. They said mortar shells and ammunition were also recovered during the operation.
Though the security forces claimed that about 90 percent area of upper parts of Orakzai Agency had been cleared of insurgents, the militants were still carrying out attacks in the area.
