Sukkur: 13 injured as rail track blown up
SUKKUR: Thirteen passengers received minor injuries when four bogies and locomotive of 20-down Khushhaal Khan express train derailed near Thull in Jacobabad after a heavy explosion on the track on Saturday.
Explosive material was planted under the railway track. When the train express going from Peshawar to Karachi reached the village of Bachro near Thull, a six-feet piece of the track blew up, derailing the four bogies and the locomotive. The passengers received injuries when luggage from berths fell on them.
According to the Superintendent Pakistan Railway Sukkur Division, Roshan Ali Mangi, a bomb disposal squad was to reach the spot at about 9pm.
He said that the explosion was an act of terrorism, adding that the railway authorities had registered a case at Thull police station and contacted the police high-ups of Jacobabad to control the law and order situation because such type of incidents had become a routine on this belt. After the incident, an alternate engine had taken the train to Jacobabad.
