Cops among 5 hurt in Lower Dir clash
TIMERGARA: At least five people, including three cops, sustained injuries during a clash in Shatai Darra in the jurisdiction of Balambat Police Station in Lower Dir, local sources said on Tuesday.
The sources said the clash took place between the law enforcing agencies and members of Shatai tribe after the law enforcers entered the area to demarcate a piece of land under directives from the local authorities.
The dispute over the possession of the land has been lingering between Utmankhel and Osakhel tribes in Shatai Darra for the last many years.
The district coordination officer, the sources said, had convened a jirga two days back to seek a viable solution to the problem. The Supreme Court had also given a verdict in the case but the Osakhel tribesmen reportedly refuses to accept it.
Meanwhile, elders of the Shatai tribe including Mohammad Ayub, Sher Zamin and Naseeb Khan, told a news conference that the forces violated their privacy and arrested eight people in the raid.
The forces, they alleged, opened fire and used teargas when the villagers protested the search. Two villagers Abeedullah and Saeed were injured in the incident, they said. On the other hand, DPO Saleem Khan told reporters that the villagers pelted the police with stones injuring three personnel Mohammad Ghani, Zahir Khan and Shakir Rehman. He said the police arrested eight persons, who had hurled stones at the police.
