Lahore: Probe into death in custody
LAHORE: District and Sessions Judge Mujahid Mustaqeem on Wednesday ordered judicial inquiry into death of a constable’s son in the Lower Mall police custody because of police torture.
The judge entrusted the inquiry to the Lower Mall special judicial magistrate, Sajjad Ahmad. The Lower Mall police had allegedly tortured to death a youth, Tahir Naveed, son of a police constable, during an investigation of charges of such heinous crimes as dacoities and murders against him.
Later, a criminal case was registered against the police officials. Police had managed to arrest only three accused officials, out of 10 nominated and five unknown accused persons.
The nominated accused were identified as Lower Mall SHO Naveed Azam, Misri Shah SHO Maqsood Gujjar, Lower Mall Police sub-inspectors Aleem Khan and Nasir, ASI Akbar Khan, ASI Nasir Shah, sub-inspector Asharaf, ASI Ghulam Nabi, constable Hafiz Manzoor and Akhtar.
