Six militants, 5 civilians killed in Orakzai Agency
HANGU: The security forces claimed to have killed six militants and destroyed two hideouts after the death of five civilians in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast on the roadside in Mamozai area in upper Orakzai Agency on Friday, official and tribal sources said.
The sources said a passenger van was on its way to Sadda tehsil in Kurram Agency from Mamozai when it hit an IED near Ghunza Village. Five persons identified as Rasool Jan, Idrees Jamal, Haider Khan, Bilal and the van’s driver Akbar Zaman Afridi were killed on the spot.
The site of the occurrence was littered with limbs of the slain persons. There were reports that the explosive device was planted in the vehicle. Meanwhile, talking to reporters from an undisclosed location by phone, the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesperson Hafiz Saeed condemned the incident and said those responsible for the incident would be taken to task.
In retaliation over the incident, the security forces fired heavy artillery at the hideouts of the militants in the area, leaving six militants dead. The sources said two suspected hideouts of the insurgents were destroyed. There was no independent confirmation of this claim.
