4 die in violence, mishaps in metropolis
KARACHI: Four people died in separate incidents of violence and mishaps, which took place in different areas of the metropolis on Monday. Police found a gunny-bagged body of drug peddler Ashok’s driver from an empty plot in Hindu Para, Mehmoodabad within the limits of Tipu Sultan police station. The victim was later identified as 35-year-old Mohammad Anwar alias Mama, son of Ghulam Mohammad. He was a resident of Chenesar Goth.
SHO Arif Afridi said that the victim received one bullet in his head while his hands and legs were tied with ropes. He went missing late Sunday night while returning home from a relative’s funeral. Mehmoodabad police has registered a case against Ashok’s rival groups and arrested one accused Anwar alias Annu. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities.
Similarly, police found another torture-marked body from Niazi Chowk, Lyari within the remits of Kalri police station. The identity of the victim is yet to be ascertained, while police found his body near Siddique-e-Akbar Mosque, Niazi Chowk.
SHO Zahid Tanoli said that the victim’s hands and legs were tied with the ropes and he appeared to be of Baloch descent. Body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for autopsy and later moved to the Edhi Morgue for identification.
Separately, police found a man’s body from his apartment in Eastern Square, Liaquatabad within the jurisdiction of Sharifabad police station. The victim was later identified as Mustaqeem Khan, son of Hashim Khan. Body was recovered on the information of area people.
SHO Iqbal Sheikh said that the victim had some dispute with his wife who visited him with her brother on Sunday. His in-law and wife may be involved in the murder, the officer added. Victim was a tailor by profession. Body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities, where doctors established that he died of suffocation.
Meanwhile, an elderly man drowned at Manora Beach within the jurisdiction of Docks police station. The identity of victim is yet to be ascertained. He stumbled while standing at Manora Beach gate No 1 and drowned in the sea. Rescue teams recovered his body and shifted it to CHK for autopsy and later to the Edhi Morgue for identification.
