NOWSHERA: Militants blew up the Kalpani Bridge near the Rashakai Interchange on the Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway on Monday, sources said.
The sources said that explosive devices planted by the militants under the bridge near the Rashakai Interchange went off at 6:05 pm and caused partial damage to the bridge. One car was destroyed while another vehicle also suffered partial damage in the blast, the sources added. However, no casualty was reported in the incident.
Following the incident, Inspector General of Police (Motorway) Zafarullah Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Fiaz Ahmed Toru, along with the Capital City Police Officer Liaqat Ali Khan and District Police Officer, Nowshera, Muhammad Quresh, reached the spot to inspect the blast site. The bomb disposal unit personnel also reached there and collected pieces of evidence. An official said that about 20-25 kilograms of explosives were used to blow up the bridge.
Meanwhile, the police arrested 17 suspected persons in the surrounding areas of the blast site. No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the explosion.
