Woman killed for honour in Torghar
MANSEHRA: A woman was killed for honour but no case was registered despite the change of the tribal status of Torghar as a settled district, local sources said. The sources said a man, Bakhtimand, allegedly killed Qari Amin last week and fled the scene. Mohammad Rahim, brother of the slain person, told a jirga that Bakhtimand had illicit relations with his sister-in-law (spouse of his brother) and allegedly killed him.
The sources said the jirga issued a decree to torch the house of Bakhtimand and asked Mohammad Rahim to do whatever the tradition allowed him in such cases. Mohammad Rahim allegedly killed his sister-in-law and threw her body into the river Indus.
This correspondent tried to contact the district coordination officer of Torghar by phone to seek his comments concerning the case but he was not available. The tribal status of Torghar (Kala Dhaka) was changed through a notification by President Asif Ali Zardari early this year and it was declared the 25th district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
