LAHORE: Staff of an Anti-Vehicle Lifting of Model Town Division have arrested three car lifters of Zakir alias Razzaq Machi gang and recovered 33 cars worth Rs 16.4 million from their possession.
The criminals confessed to have lifted 47 cars during preliminary interrogations.
According to an official handout issued on Wednesday, DIG (Investigation) Ali Aamir Malik and SSP (Investigation) Abdul Razzaq Chemma, on the directives issued by Capital City Police Officer, Ahmed Raza Tahir, directed CRO SP Sajjad Ahmad Manj to take effective measures against gangs of car lifters.
CRO SP constituted a special team under the supervision of Anti-Vehicle Lifting Staff DSP Saleem Mukhtar Butt, and comprising Sub-Inspector Muhammad Rafique and other police officials.
The police team worked hard and collected particulars of the Zakir alias Razzaq Machi gang and arrested its three members, including its ringleader.
Modus operandi of the criminals was that they would unlock vehicles with the help of master keys, and drive them away to Peshawar via Motorway, where they would sell the cars to a local, Imran Khan Pathan, at low rates.
The criminals are history-sheeters and 33 cases have been traced against them in the provincial capital.
The areas where these criminals were most active, included those around Ittefaq Hospital Kotlakhpat, Link Road Model Town, Sattokatla, Gulberg, Lytton Road and Wahdat Colony.
The arrested were identified as ringleader Zakir alias Razzaq Machi, Abid Ali and Ghazanfar Ali aliasMitho. Further investigations are in progress.
CCPO has announced cash prizes and commendatory certificates for the police team. Other members of the police team are SI Muhammad Razzaq, Constable Gulfam Haider, Shahzad Qamar, Shakeel Ahmed, Ghulam Mustafa and Nasir Jabran.
