Gujrat: 2 prisoners shot dead on court premises
Gujrat: Two prisoners, who were facing double murder charges, were shot dead by their rivals in the police custody on the premises of District and Sessions Court on Saturday.
Three people, including a constable, were also injured by the firing of the assailants. The police claimed to have arrested two accused while the main assailant managed to escape. Pervez alias Peja, his son Mukhtar and brother Ashfaq, residents of Kalara Khasa village, were brought to the court for the hearing of a double murder case. His rivals opened fire at them, killing Pervez and his son Mukhtar. Ashfaq, another prisoner Muhammad Zaman of Chechian Shamas village and Constable Zubair were injured. However, the assailants managed to escape by scaling the boundary wall.
Police said that Constable Zubair was injured when he chased and tried to arrest a fleeing assailant. On the report of Muhammad Ishtiaq, the police have registered a case against 11 people, including eight nominated, belonging to the Kalara Khasa village under sections 302, 324, 109, 186, 353, 148 and 149 of the PPC. The police claimed to have arrested nominated accused Muhammad Ashraf and his son Zahid. Gujrat DPO Afzaal Kausar and SP Investigations Afzal Virk reached the spot. The police said that motive behind the incident was an old enmity which had already claimed three lives, including Ilyas Warraich and his two nephews.
