Rawalpindi: A hardened criminal kills for the passion of a woman
Rawalpindi: Recently the police have arrested a woman and her paramour for allegedly killing her husband a sorry episode of a four-year relation that ended on a murder, leaving three children without parents. Gul Mohammad, according to police, wanted to meet Eidun Nisa as and when he desired. But the woman, out of fear of her husband, Syedur Rehman, would turn down requests for meeting.
Mother of three children, she married Syedur Rehman eight years ago. On the night of May 14, a villager of Tarnol informed the police that Syedur Rehman, a taxi driver, was killed in a robbery. Eidun Nisa told police that she woke up after a robber was trying to remove ring from her finger. She added after removing the ring, the man tried to snatch Rs50,000 from her husband, who resisted, annoying the robber. She maintained that the robber opened fire and killed him instantly. According to her, the killer escaped from the house after jumping a wall.
But when the police started probe, discrepancies started to appear. The investigators found that the house`s main gate was locked from inside and the wall that the `killer` scaled was 10 feet high. The investigators tried to jump over the wall but could not because of its height.
Importantly the inspection of body revealed that the husband was killed not in a scuffle with the `killer` but in his sleep. There were no signs of resistance on his body, nor inside the house.
A slipper found by the police in the kitchen gave away the killer. It belonged to Gul.
Moreover, the victim`s daughter and neighbours told police that they had not heard any gunshot. The victim`s seven-year-old daughter told police that her mother woke her up to say that a robber had shot her father dead. She then saw her father lying in a pool of blood.
When a police team visited the victim`s house, head constable Mohammad Arshad told a senior officer that he had seen Eidun Nisa some days back with another man.
The constable had a habit of maintaining record of suspicious people intercepted at checkpoints. According to his diary, when a cab was intercepted at a checkpoint in I-14 two weeks before the murder, it had Eidun Nisa and another man Nisar.
In the meantime, Eidun Nisa along the body of her husband went to their native town “Swabi “ for burial. During her absence the police rounded up persons she had nominated in her complaint. Although vagabonds, none of them was found to be involved in the killing. However, during questioning, some of them alleged that Eidun Nisa had “illicit relations with some men”.
On her return, she was arrested, and asked about her relations with other men. Cornered, Eidun Nisa narrated the real story about the killing of Syedur Rehman. She said four years back Gul, a native of Abbottabad, approached her with the request for the hand of her younger sister.
Instead, according to the police, the two developed a liking for each other. But, their illicit relationship ran into difficulties as Gul got angy whenever Eidun Nisa spurned his advances out of fear of her husband.
On May 14 around 10pm, Gul signaled his presence by throwing his slipper into the house which landed in the kitchen. Although Syedur Rehman was sleeping with three children in the bedroom, Eidun Nisa opened the gate for Gul.
They met for 20 minute in another room. Leaving, Gul saw the husband sleeping and told Eidun Nisa that he was going to kill him. Getting no reply from her, the accused fired a bullet, killing Syedur Rehman. He left the house by using the main gate on his motorcycle.
A few minutes later, Eidun Nisa raised alarm. Her screams and wailing brought neighbours to her house and the police were informed.
Police believed that the killer used the pistol with a silencer, adding that`s why the three children and neighbours did not hear any gunshot.
As police started search for Gul, it turned out that he was wanted in a number of cases, including murder and robberies, in various districts, including Rawalpindi.
The search for Gul ended when the Westridge police in Rawalpindi told their colleagues in Islamabad that they have arrested him for involvement in other criminal cases. According to the investigators, Gul has confessed to killing Syedur Rehman, brining an end to a sorry saga.
