PESHAWAR: Station house officer (SHO) of the Regi Police Station was killed in encounter with an alleged criminal early Sunday. An official said that a police party of the Regi Police Station headed by SHO Farhad Ali raided a house to arrest a proclaimed offender, Noor Mohammad, at around 5 am. The inmates of the house opened fire on the police, killing SHO Farhad Ali.
The sources said the exchange of fire continued for quite some time but the criminals managed to escape. Some reports suggested that a son of the proclaimed offender was also killed and three others wounded in the shootout. However, the reports could not be confirmed as nobody was recovered from the building.
A search operation was launched in the area to arrest the culprits involved in the killing of the senior cop. The SHO was later laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard at Nasirpur village on the Grand Trunk Road located at the outskirts of Peshawar.
