Karachi: Lasi group activist remanded in police custody
Karachi: The judicial magistrate, South, Hatim Aziz Solangi, on Monday remanded an accused belonging to the Lasi group, Mohammad Anwer alias Annu, in police custody till June 2 in the kidnapping case of an activist of the rival group.
Mohammad Anwer, alias Mama, of the Ashfaq group, was kidnapped allegedly by four men — Mohammad Anwer alias Annu, Sajid alias Gainda, Ghulam Hussain alias Diesel and Ayaz. His kidnappers later killed him and dumped his body in the bushes in the Tipu Sultan police limits on Monday 22.
Haleem, sister of the deceased, lodged a complaint with the police. The magistrate also directed the investigation officer (IO) to produce in the court all the other three absconding accused in the case.
Meanwhile, the same court wrote to the SSP Investigation South to take disciplinary action against two police personnel.
The directive was issued after police officials Sub-Inspector Manzoor Elahi and Ghulam Mustafa did not appear in the court despite the issuance of repeated notices in a case related to arms and ammunition.
The court in its letter directed the investigation department to take disciplinary action against the officials for violating court notices and for not appearing in the court for the last one year.
Though several notices and summons were issued to the prosecution witnesses in the case, they failed to appear, which caused delays in the hearing of cases. The court also ordered stoppage of salaries of the two police personnel, and sought a report at the next hearing on June 3.
