Karachi: A police constable was shot dead by robbers near the Pir Pagara House in Bahadurabad area on Monday evening. However, the police managed to arrest two of them and seized arms and a car from their possession. Police received information that some armed men, driving a grey Cultus car, were robbing people near the Pir Pagara House.
A patrolling mobile of the Bahadurabad police station immediately moved towards the spot where Constable Taj Mohammed spotted the suspects and signalled them to stop. Upon seeing the police, the suspects opened fire due to which PC Taj got injured, while the other personnel engaged the suspects in a shootout following which Nisaar Ahmed and Suleman Yousuf were arrested, while their accomplices escaped under the cover of fire. They were later identified as Usman and Zohaib.
Police seized two pistols and the car (ANM-215) from the possession of the held suspects. PC Taj Mohammed had been serving at the Bahadurabad police station for the last seven years and he hailed from Bahawal Nagar Punjab. After completing legal formalities his body was despatched to his hometown. He was residing in Mehmoodabad area and he left behind a widow, two sons and two daughters.
During interrogation, the held suspects disclosed that they hailed from Khairpur Miras (Sindh) and had been operating in the city for the past many months. They used to hire cars from various rent-a-car shops situated in posh localities for committing crimes in Ferozeabad, Bahadurabad, Defence, Clifton and Gulshan areas.
Nisar revealed that he was sitting on the back seat while Usman was driving the car, and when PC Taj Mohammed came to stop their vehicle Usman opened fire at him. A case has been registered and further investigation is under way.
