17 militants killed in Orakzai
KALAYA: Seventeen militants were killed and six others sustained injuries when jetfighters bombed their hideouts for two hours in the militant stronghold Mamozai area located in upper tehsil of Orakzai Agency on Tuesday, tribal sources said.
The sources quoting military officials reported that the positions of militants in Mirqalamkhel, Torsmast, Akhunkot, Jabba and Jarando Killay were targeted in the bombing. The sources said the slain militants included Nauman Afridi, Haider Gul, Moeen Khan, Kamal, Jalil Khan, Muhammad Khan, Sheraz, Sabiri, Maluk, Dilbar Afridi, Khanan, Sheikh Muhammad, Abdus Sattar and Muqarab Khan.
After the bombing, a large number of residents including women and children started migration to safe places on foot as the transporters increased travel charges manifold to fleece the tribesmen.
When contacted, an official of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Syed Azmat Ali said wherever the reports about presence of militant hideouts were received, the security forces act to dismantle them.
He termed the jets bombing in Orakzai Agency as part of routine action against the insurgents in the area. Meanwhile, talking to a private radio channel, the leader of the pro-government armed volunteer force in Mamozai area, Malik Sawab Khan said the peace force was formed against militants to push them away from the upper tehsil of Orakzai Agency.
He said Mamozai area was a stronghold of militants and they were planning and launching sabotage activities from this place in various parts of the country. The elder said that right at the movement, Taliban insurgents including Arabs, Chechens, Uzbeks and a large number of Afghans were hiding in the Mamozai area. The security forces recently concluded military action against the militants in lower tehsil of Orakzai Agency.
