Karachi: 8 held for attack on Zardari’s protocol officer
KARACHI: Eight people were arrested by the police in Lyari on Wednesday in connection with the attack on President Zardari’s chief protocol officer Bilal Sheikh after an encounter which left the SHO Supermarket injured, police said.
The raid was supervised by the TPO Liaqatabad and SPO Gulbahar Kaisar Ali Shah. SHO Shafeeq Tanoli was hit by a bullet on the shoulder.The police said they recovered arms from the possession of the arrested suspects, who exchanged fire with the law enforcers before being caught.
According to police sources, a tip-off was received that eight suspects were present in the area after which a team led by the TPO Liaqatabad conducted the raid. They said the suspected men were arrested in connection with the attack on Sheikh, whose convoy had been attacked by armed men in the Gulbahar area of the city on Saturday.
Six or seven armed men had ambushed Sheikh’s convoy in the Gulbahar area late on Saturday night, but luckily no one was hurt in the incident.
