Karachi: 22 gangs of terrorists busted since January, claim police
Karachi: As many as 22 gangs of alleged terrorists were busted and 53 arrests made from across Sindh during the last five months this year, police claimed. According to the performance report and statistics of the Sindh Police issued here on Thursday, only one terrorist was killed in an encounter with the police.
The police recovered 240 kgs of explosives, 319 sticks, 1,992 detonators, 76 hand grenades, five rocket launchers with 10 grenades, four bombs, one 30-kg anti-tank mine, 11 suicide jackets and 102 sophisticated weapons.
It was claimed in the statistics that 531 other gangs of criminals (not associated with terrorism) were also busted, 94 dacoits were killed in 1,399 encounters while 1,452 criminals were held red-handed and 2,076 proclaimed offenders were arrested during the said period.
Moreover, 25,502 absconders were apprehended from various parts of the province. The report added that 41 policemen embraced martyrdom and 64 sustained injuries in operations against the outlaws.
During the same period, the police recovered 4,131 small arms, including pistols, revolvers and mousers, along with over 25,000 rounds of ammunition and 115 rifles from the criminals.
Referring to the action against the target killers, the statistics of the report further stated that 77 alleged accused involved in target killings were arrested and overall total 144 cases were detected in Karachi city during the period under review.
In action against extortionists, Karachi Police apprehended 52 accused involved in 31 cases. They confessed their involvement in extortion, the report added.
