Karachi: 21 injured in Napier Road bomb blast
KARACHI: Twenty-one people were injured in an explosion in the limits of the City Town police area on Friday night. There was, however, no report of any death in the incident.
Sources held the extortion mafia, which is active in the area, responsible for the attack. Sources in Kharadar police said the police and Rangers rushed to the area immediately after receiving information and found several injured people lying on the ground.
The rescue teams were called and all of the injured were shifted to the Civil Hospital. The law-enforcers cordoned off the area, collected evidence from the scene and started an investigation.
The police said the blast occurred at a time when shops were open and there were many people around. They said two persons on a motorcycle threw a hand grenade at the spot and fled.
Nineteen of the injured were admitted to the CHK while three of them, who were critically injured, were sent to the Liaquat National Hospital. Sources said traders of the area had been receiving threats from the extortion mafia but they had refused to pay any money. They said the same mafia had committed the offence.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has taken notice of the incident and ordered the Capital City Police Officer Karachi to conduct an inquiry and submit report.
