Lahore: 10 illegal arms dealers held
LAHORE: The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Organized Crime claimed to have arrested 10 dealers of illegal weapons and seized a huge amount of firearms and ammunition during a crackdown launched on illegal arms dealers in the city.
Overall 45 shops of arms and ammunition were thoroughly checked by the CIA under the supervision of SSP Investigation Abdul Razaq Cheema and SP CIA Omer Virk.
During the crackdown, police have taken 10 arms dealers into their custody for interrogations while four shops have been sealed on charges of having bogus licences.
The teams seized two rifles (8mm), nine rifles (7mm), two rifles (244bore), six pistols (9mm), one rifle (222bore), 99 pump action guns, two shot gun (12bore), three guns (12bore), one pistol (25 bore), 82 pistol (30bore), 10 revolver (32 bore), 32,761 bullets and 9,930 cartridges.
Addressing a press conference at CIA Kotwali on Sunday, DIG Investigation Ali Amir Malik, flanked by SSP Abdul Razaq Cheema and SP CIA Omer Virk, said the recent crackdown against illegal arms and ammunition was launched after the big bosses of police department observed excessive use of firearms during felony acts.
The arrested accused were identified as Shah Khalid, a resident of Dara Adam Khel, Kohat, Muhammad Arshad, a resident of Daroghawal, Lahore, Chaman Mehmood of Kohat, Haji Aurangzeb of Ghauri Street, Mozang, Zubair of Katchi Abadi, Civil Lines, Lahore, Muhammad Saleem of B-Block, Gulshan Ravi, Lahore, Ali Hassan of Hamdani Chowk, Chungi Amir Sidhu, Altaf of Jaranwala, Faisalabad, Fazal-ur-Rehman of Mardan and Sher Afzal of Mardan.
The shops which have been sealed were Yousuf and Sons Weapons Dealer, Daroghawala, Admiral K-R Weapons Dealers, Manga Manid, B-F and Company Weapons Dealers, Tariq Ismail Market, Chungi Amir Sidhu and Hamid Hassan and Company Weapons Dealers, K/11 Tariq Ismail Market, Chungi Amir Sidhu.
According to an official handout issued by the CCPO Office, during interrogation, the police officials were astonished to know that almost each arms dealer had established numerous ammunition shops in different parts of the City after obtaining single licence.
