Lahore: 3 killed, five injured over enmity
LAHORE: PML-N Women Wing president of UC-113, Memona Jabin, her security guard and a passerby were killed and five others injured allegedly by the members of Arif Bhinder Group over old animosity near Old Ravi Bridge in the Badami Bagh police limits on Saturday evening.
Police have arrested main culprit Akbar Bhinder and one of his accomplices but no case was registered till the filing of this report.
Around four to five unidentified persons attacked the vehicle of Memona Jabin near Railway Crossing Line No 5 close to Old Ravi Bridge when she was heading from her office to home. Victim Memona Jabin, 40, a resident of Khokhar Village in Badami Bagh, was the wife of forest officer Malik Noor Muhammad and sister of Malik Zahid, ringleader of Malik Zahid alias Zahidu Group.
Malik Zahid was killed in an incident in which former Advocate General Arif Iqbal Bhinder was also shot dead some six years back in the Mozang police limits.
Memona Jabin died on the spot while her security guard Ashfaq, 33, a resident of Fateh Garh, Moghalpura, and a passerby, Awais, 20, a resident of Mian Park, Badami Bagh, succumbed to injuries in the Mayo Hospital. Five injured persons identified as Yaqoob, 40, Allah Ditta, 30, Faqir Hussain, 42, Shahid, 35, and Kabir Ahmad, 28, were also shifted to Mayo Hospital where the condition of Kabir Ahmad was stated to be critical.
Police sources said that two rival groups Arif Bhinder and Malik Zahid had been enemies for the past many years. The animosity has claimed a number people of both groups.
On Saturday, Memona was going on a vehicle along with her bodyguard Ashfaq and driver when armed men on bikes of the rival party intercepted them and sprayed bullets on them. As a result, Memona, her security guard Ashfaq and a passerby Awais received multiple bullet wounds. The indiscriminate firing also left five aforementioned passersby injured.
Rescue 1122 and local police reached the spot and shifted the victims to Mayo Hospital. Memona was pronounced dead while Ashfaq and Awais succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. The bodies were removed to morgue for autopsy. The incident created panic among the commuters while the killers managed to escape from the crime scene.
