Senior KESC official shot dead in Malir
Karachi: Unidentified men shot dead an official of the Karachi Electric Supply Company, who was also a retired colonel, in the Malir Cantt police limits late on Sunday night. The incident took place a few yards away off the Malir Cantt check-post. The assailants managed to flee the scene.
Colonel (retd) Mohammed Ali Saqi was shot dead between 08:30 and 08:45pm on Sunday near Mahi Nursery in Malir Cantt. The SHO of Malir Cantt, Arshad Leghari, told The News that he, along with his team, immediately rushed to the spot after having received information that a man had been targeted near Mahi Nursery.
He said that they found a car sprayed with bullets and an injured man in it. He was immediately rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Col (retd) Mohammed Ali Saqi was a resident of Malir Cantt Bazaar. He had retired from the Pakistan Army in 2003.
During examination, it was found that the deceased had received five bullets on his chest, neck and head. Police also collected some empty casings from the spot which were of a 9mm pistol.
SHO Leghari said that the deceased had been a senior officer in the vigilance department of the KESC and he also ran a nursery with the name of Mahi Nursery situated a few yards off the Malir Cantt check-post.
He added that when questioned, the employees at the nursery of the deceased told the police that Colonel (retd) Saqi had visited the nursery on Sunday afternoon at about 3:30pm and spent several hours there.
During his stay he also watered the plants and helped his employees in plantation. Between 8:30 and 8:45pm, the colonel decided to leave the nursery and walked towards his car which was parked near the nursery.
In the meantime they heard gunshots being fired and they immediately ran towards the car and found their employer lying injured in his car.
They said the suspects, who were two in number, rode a 125 motorcycle and were wearing helmets. The investigators termed the murder of Colonel (Retd) Saqi as an act of targeted killing.
