Karachi: Aman Committee convoy attacked, 10 injured
KARACHI: Unidentified armed motorcycle riders attacked a convoy of the People’s Aman Committee (PAC) chairman in the area of Khyber Chowk in the limits of Napier police. There was no report of any death but more than 10 people were injured.
Sources in the police said the PAC chairman Uzair Baloch was returning home from a function organised by the Ghanchi community at the Memon Ghanchi Community House near the KMC Workshop when attacked.
The sources said some armed men carrying 12-bore rifles opened fire and also lobbed a cracker when the convoy reached near the Khyber Chowk. The convoy was attacked from the rear due to which Uzair Baloch, Zafar Baloch and others were not hurt. However, 10 people present at the scene were injured due to the firing and the throwing of a cracker. They were moved to the Civil Hospital, Karachi. Sources in the hospital said they received 10 wounded men, and the condition of five was critical. They said almost all of the injured received wounds from 12–bore pistols.
The police and Rangers cordoned off the area to collect evidence. The bomb disposal staff also reached the scene. In their initial report they stated that there was no evidence of a hand grenade and opined that a cracker was thrown at the convoy. A case has been registered. The CM has taken note and ordered the CCPO and IG to submit a report.
