Karachi: 2 political activists among 10 killed in violence, mishaps
KARACHI: Ten people, including two political activists, fell prey to target killing and other incidents in different parts of the city on Wednesday. An ANP activist, Javed alias Toti, 19, son of Gul Mohammad, was gunned down at the Wednesday Bazaar where he used to sell blankets. The bazaar is located in Qasba Colony in Pirabad police precincts.
His killing triggered violence as miscreants torched a Suzuki high-roof (CN-1103) and also opened fire, causing suspension of routine and commercial activities in Qasba Colony, Banaras, Kati Pahari, Aligarh Colony and other areas.
Police officials believed that the people belonging to the same ethnicity over a personal enmity killed the victim. A girl, Hina, 09, and Nazima, 10, were also injured during the firing and were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for treatment.
ANP Sindh spokesperson Qadir Khan in a statement strongly condemned the target killing of his party worker. He said that the deceased was associated with the ANP Bacha Khan Ward UC 12, Orangi Town. He further said that the victim’s brother, Islam, was also killed on May 12, 2007.
In another incident, an activist of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was killed when armed men opened fire on his Suzuki Alto car near Teen Talwar, Clifton within the jurisdiction of Frere police station.
The victim was identified as Khadim Hussain. Police officials said that he was killed over a personal enmity as the initial investigation suggested that he had a relation with any girl whose family might be behind his murder.
They said that one of the victim’s brothers used to work in the Sindh Chief Minister’s House while the victim lived at a residential quarter at the CM House.
DSP Rao Iqbal said that the victim used to run an advertising company in Khadda Market and was going home with his friend after closing his office. He said that police believed that personal enmity might be a motive behind the incident. The victim hailed from Dadu, interior Sindh.
Deputy Information Secretary PPP Karachi Division Sohail Abidi said the victim was an active worker of their organisation. He also condemned the killing of Hussain.
In yet another incident, Saifur Rehman, son of Faqeer, was killed and Saifullah was injured when unidentified armed men opened fire at their hotel in Lee Market within the jurisdiction of Kalakot police station.
Police officials said that the deceased was an employee while the injured was an employer. Police officials suspected that the incident took place over extortion dispute. However, the investigation was underway, they said.
In Keamari, younger brother Abdul Rauf allegedly killed his eldest brother Abdul Qayyum, 30, at their house near Omar Khan Road within the jurisdiction of Jackson police station.
Police officials said that Qayyum was shot dead by his younger brother Rauf, after exchanging hot words over a family dispute. They said that the deceased was a driver by profession and hailed from Swat. However, the police have registered a case against victim’s younger brother and started search for his arrest.
Separately, in Korangi Industrial Area police limits, a couple was shot dead at their house in a slum area, Mehran Town. Police officials said that the victims were killed by their son-in-law, Sajid, over a domestic dispute. The victims were identified as Mushtaq, 45, and his wife Saeeda, 40.
SP Usman Ghani said that the accused escaped before the police reached the site of the incident. However, the police have registered a case against the accused.
Moreover, police found the body of a youth appeared to be an Afghan national from the bushes near the Superhighway, Quetta Town within the limits of Sachal police station.
Police officials said that unidentified men stabbed him to death. They suspected that the culprits also sodomised him before killing, however, they were waiting for a post-mortem report. No case was registered till filing this report.
In a road accident, two real brothers were crushed to death by a vehicle in Future Colony, Landhi, within the limits of Sharafi Goth police station.
An 18-year-old youth Siddique, son of Changaiz Khan, was going home with his younger brother Sajjad, when a speeding truck (TKU-8476) knocked them, resultantly Siddique died on the spot while his brother received injuries. Police shifted them to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where Sajjad succumbed to his injuries.
In another road accident, a young man was crushed to death by a vehicle on Hub River Road, Baldia in the jurisdiction of Saeedabad police station.
The victim was later identified as Shams, 28, resident of Saeedabad. He was going home when a speeding bus knocked him and run away, resultantly he died on the spot. The body was brought to the CHK for an autopsy.
Meanwhile, a minor girl died mysteriously at her house in North Nazimabad in the limits of Taimuria police station.
The victim was identified as 12-year-old Asma, daughter of Shakeel, resident of Block N, North Nazimabad. The police found her as strangulated to death from her room.
SHO Imran Zaidi said the victim family said that she committed suicide with the help of ropes tied with a ceiling fan over a domestic matter.
The officer said the victim family did not cooperate with police and took away the body from the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital without completing legal formalities. The victim was the student of Class 7th and her father is a driver.
