Karachi: Police release suspects for want of evidence
Karachi: In an interesting development, the police have released for want of evidence three suspects who were arrested in connection with the murder of two lawyer brothers last month. Zakir Hussain, Ali Raza and Noor Hussain were arrested by the Mauripur police on May 28 for allegedly murdering two lawyer brothers — Altaf Hussain and Nazar Hussain — near their residence in Baldia.
The police also obtained their six-day physical remand but during investigations the police failed to establish the commissioning of the offence by them.
On Wednesday, the investigation officer of the Mauripur police station submitted a report under Section 497-B of the Criminal Procedure Code in the court of Judicial Magistrate (West) Pir Syed Asadullah Shah Rashdi, stating that no reasonable grounds could be established against the three suspects.
Section 497-B authorises an SHO to release a suspect on bond and without any surety at any stage of investigations if no sufficient evidence is found against him.
After taking the report on record, the judicial magistrate summoned the complainant on June 15.
The suspects were said to be associated with a banned outfit. However, the police failed to establish any case against them.
