Parachinar: 5 militants, two security men killed in Kurram ambush
PARACHINAR: At least five militants were killed in retaliatory fire by the security forces in Shaheedano Dhand area of Kurram Agency on Wednesday while two security personnel embraced martyrdom in an ambush.
Official sources said that insurgents ambushed forces patrol party with automatic weapons and rocket propelled grenades leaving two security forces personnel dead. The security forces repulsed the attack and gunned down at least five insurgents.
Number of the militants who took part in the recent attack was not mentioned by the official sources. Militants after ambush fled from the spot, which was later cordoned off by armed forces personnel. Reports from the area say that armed forces were planning to launch fresh offensive against the militants in Kurram Agency to restore peace in the region. But timeframe for the fresh offensive was yet to be made public.
In the past armed forces carried out several actions against al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters in the tribal belt, but the militants returned to the area once the security forces numbers were reduced. It is pertinent to be mentioned here that Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) led by Hakimullah Mehsud, successor of TTP founder and slain chief Baitullah Mehsud, have vowed to avenge the killing of Osama Bin Laden who was killed in Abbottabad by the US Special Forces in unilateral attack.
