Islamabad: Probe into murders of journalist, professor urged
Islamabad: Aman Ittehad strongly condemns the violent murders of journalist Saleem Shehzad and scholar professor Saba Dashtiyari. It demands immediate formation of an independent commission of inquiry that must be given due powers to conduct a thorough and fair investigation.
The commission must be tasked with identifying the planners, supporters and perpetrators of these heinous c. Its findings must be made public and action must promptly be taken to arrest all involved, no matter who they may be.
Aman Ittehad through Khawar Mumtaz, member of its national advisory committee, has said that the murders are an attack on the freedom and rights of every citizen of Pakistan. Aman Ittehad extends sincere condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the slain men.
Paying tribute to professor Dashtiyari, Mumtaz said that he was a learned scholar and a well-known academic figure who was associated with the Balochistan University for over 30 years. He was also a committed political activist.
His assassination has further deepened the widespread sense of deprivation in the people of Balochistan, especially among the Baluch youth. Aman Ittehad reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Balochistan as they continue to face insecurity and violence.
Aman Ittehad also pays tribute to the courage and commitment of journalist Saleem Shahzad who was kidnapped and killed soon after his story on PNS Mehran was published. This incident has raised many questions about those that were involved in his abduction and murder.
