Lahore: Robber who killed A level student held
LAHORE: A student of A levels was shot dead by robbers on resistance during a robbery bid at Wapda Town in the Sattukatla police limits here on Thursday.
A case was registered against five accused, including two nominated persons, identified as a housemaid, Yasmin, and her husband Mukhtar. The prime accused Yasmin and Arshad alias Achhi, who had shot the victim, have been arrested while three other accused were still at large.
The deceased was identified as Hassaan, 18, a resident of House # 318, E-I Block, Wapda Town. A neighbour of the victim, Raheel, told The News that at around 12:30pm, five unidentified robbers barged into the victim’s house and made Hassaan and his parents their hostage. He said the robbers demanded valuables and gold ornaments from the family over which Hassaan offered resistance. At this, one of the robbers whipped out a 30–bore pistol and opened fire on the victim Hassaan causing three bullet injuries, including one in the head, while the robbers managed to escape from the scene without looting anything, the neighbour said.
After hearing the shots, locals gathered at the house and called police and rescue services. Rescue 1122 reached the spot within minutes and rushed Hassaan to the Jinnah Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Police reached the spot late as usual giving a chance to the robbers to flee the area. They collected evidence and shifted the body to morgue.
The victim’s father, Abdul Latif, told police the robbers had barged into their house in connivance with the housemaid, Yasmin. He said the housemaid had also fled from the house along with the robbers.
Sattukatla Police SHO Javed Siddiq claimed that they had reached the crime scene within five minutes and after knowing that the housemaid had also fled with the robbers, they conducted a raid at her rented house in Sattukatla which was found locked. He further said the maid belonged to Okara and a police had arrested her from there. He also claimed that Yasmin’s husband, Mukhtar, was also involved in the incident. A case was registered against the accused persons under dacoity and murder charges, the SHO maintained.
The victim, Hassaan, had two elder brothers and a sister. His sister was married while his brothers were living abroad. A friend of the victim told The News that he (Hassaan) was on summer vacations after taking final exams, adding that he was a friendly person and a good player of cricket.
It is pertinent to note here that the commanders of Lahore Police are busy in making their team by reshuffling police officials and officers while the robbers and criminals are looting and killing in the provincial metropolis.
During the first week of June, robbers had shot injured three persons and robbed over 250 citizens of cash, valuables, gold ornaments, cell phones, cars and motorcycles worth millions of rupees.
Out of the total reported incidents, around 38 motorcycles and 30 cars were also stolen or snatched from six divisions of Lahore Police. On June 2, 2011, three men were shot at and injured in Nizamabad locality of Gujjarpura Police and Shadbagh Police areas when they offered resistance to the robbers.
