Peshawar: Man gets 14-year jail term
PESHAWAR: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday sentenced a man to 14-year imprisonment for possessing explosives to carry out a blast in Peshawar. Judge Anwar Ali announced 14-year imprisonment to Jamaluddin associated with the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Swat chapter after recording statements of the accused and prosecution witnesses. The convict is the resident of Shingrai area in Lower Dir district.
On July 5, 2010, acting on a tip-off, the police arrested the accused and recovered seven kilograms of explosives, detonators and electric wires from his possession in the limits of the Pishtakhara Police Station, Peshawar. The police had charged him under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act and Sections 4 and 5 of the Explosives Substance Act.
The public prosecutor, Mohammad Khalid, informed the court that during investigation the accused had admitted being a member of the TTP, Swat, and also confessed that he was planning to carry out a blast in the city.
