Islamabad: Marriage dispute lands man in hospital with 90% burn injuries
ISLAMABAD: A 22-year-old man received 90 percent burn injuries as some unknown persons set him ablaze over a marriage dispute. According to sources, the victim has been admitted to Pakistan Ordnance Factory Burn Center Wah Cantt in a critical condition.
The victim Yasir had allegedly developed love for a 19- year-old girl near his home. When the girl was engaged to Shoaib, Yasir called him and told that he wanted to marry his fiancée. Both exchanged hot words and after that Yasir filed an application with police station alleging that he had given jewellery, cell phone and cash of over Rs 100,000 to girl’s family, which were not returned to him.
Chairman of the arbitrary court Sardar Saleem called both the parties and it was decided that Yasir would not disturb the family. It was also decided that a jirga would be held in the village to sort out the marriage issue but it could not be resolved. On June 11 two persons burnt Yasir by sprinkling petrol on him and he was admitted to hospital in critical condition.
Gulnotar police registered FIR and arrested Shoaib, but due to weak report, the court sent the accused to jail. Yasir’s cousin Nawaz told Daily Times that in a jirga at police station it was decided that Yasir would withdraw his application and the agreement to marry the girl with him would be made in local Jirga to be held next day in the village. He said later Aslam refused to give hand of his daughter to Yasir. Following the refusal on the next day Yasir was burned.
Nawaz said when he heard cries of Yasir he reached the spot and saw two unknown persons running from the scene and entering Aslam’s house. Nawaz said when he knocked the door of the house Aslam started aerial firing. He alleged that police were favoring girl’s father and trying to close the case.
Yasir in his statement in hospital said two persons burned him and ran away. He said Aslam had extended him life threats. According to hospital sources Yasir was burned 90 percent and his condition was critical. Investigation officer ASI Mehboobur Rehman told Daily Times that he had been investigating the case without favoring any party and Aslam was arrested but he submitted an affidavit that he was not involved in the case and there was a possibility that Yasir had allegedly tried to commit suicide.
