2 killed, five injured during 3 months in Daska
DASKA: Two people have been killed while five others seriously injured due to the 66000KV cables dangling over BRB Canal near Bombanwala on Daska-Wazirabad Road.
Citizens told The News that a few days ago, two friends were travelling on the roof of a bus when they touched the cables. “On of them died on the spot while another was seriously injured. Three months ago, a labourer touched the cables and died on the spot. Four more people have been seriously injured,” they added.
Basit Ali, a citizen, said that the road was recently constructed and the distance between the cables and the road was hardly 13-14 feet. He said people travelled on the roofs of buses due to extraordinary rush and scanty transport in the area. “The cables also come closer to buses during the hot weather,” he maintained. Sajjad Mehmood, another citizen, said that more accidents could occur if the authorities did not pay attention to their problem. He said that people had repeatedly submitted applications to the Wapda office, but to no avail.
Residents of various areas, including Mohallah Rawala, Baba Nanak Street, Sodian Street, Sambrial Road, Jamke Road, Gali Tarwali, Mohallah Mughalpura, Tailinwal Gala and Pasrur Road, said that wires were dangling hardly at 5-6 feet in all the streets, posing a threat to their lives. They said that the Wapda officials had turned a deaf ear to their plight. They said that the danger of accidents increased especially during the rainy season. They said that unscheduled power shutdown was going on unchecked, but no one was ready to listen to their complaint. They demanded the Wapda high-ups look into the matter and take step to resolve their problem.
