441 cops killed, 1,071 injured in KP terrorist attacks since 2003
PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakthunkhwa police being a frontline force in combating terrorism had paid a heavy price as 441 policemen have been killed and 1,071 injured in deadly terrorists’ attacks in last eight years, officials said here Wednesday. For Khyber Pakthunkhwa police, 2009 year had been proved very destructive as 149 valiant cops have been martyred and 360 wounded in deadly explosions, missile attacks, firing, suicidal attacks and blasts at CD/barber shops etc, an official in police department said.
Out of 2,028 registered cases, 120 FC personnel, 297 security personnel and 2,032 civilians have also been martyred in terrorists’ incidents from 2003 to May 2011.DIG ranks police officers including CCPO Malik Saeed Shaheed, DIG Bannu Abid Ali, Commandant Frontier Constabulary, Sifwat Ghayoor, DPO Khurshid Khan, DSP Khan Razzak Shaheed were among dozens others gallant officers have been martyred in terrorists attacks during last eight years. To acknowledge the invaluable sacrifices of Khyber-Pakthunkhwa police, the provincial government has approved a martyrs’ package for police by increasing compensation amount from three million rupees to Rs10 million, cash payment in lieu of plot of land was enhanced from one million rupees to five million besides full pension benefits, scholarships for education of children of martyred police cops, accommodation and employment, payment of full pay and allowances and medical assistance to children. In addition to these moral boosting measures, the official said, a Gallantry Award has been announced by Chief Minister Khyber-Pakthunkhwa for brave policemen with increase in pay and allowances.
