Baizai: 25 insurgents, four soldiers killed in clashes
GHALLANAI: Twenty-five militants and four soldiers were killed in clashes in the Baizai Subdivision of the troubled Mohmand tribal region on Sunday, official and tribal sources said.
Sources said security forces, backed by gunship helicopters and jet fighters, launched an operation against the militants in Baizai, a remote subdivision of Mohmand Agency bordering Afghanistan. According to sources, security forces faced tough resistance during the day-long operation to capture the stronghold of militants and the strategically-important hilltop in Walidad locality.
At least 25 militants and four soldiers were killed and 13 others sustained injuries in the clashes, sources said, adding the forces later took control of Walidad hilltop and also cleared the adjoining areas of the militants.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, gunship helicopters and PAF jet fighters also blitzed the hideouts of militants in the mountainous Walidad area while forces carried out heavy shelling through artillery and mortar guns.
The forces also launched a search operation against the militants in the area, the sources added. Security forces reinforced positions in the area where residents accorded them a warm welcome. They garlanded the advancing troops and assured them of full support against the militants.
Meanwhile, security forces continued pounding the positions of militants in Mithai, Soran Darra, Alingar, Sheikh Baba and other areas with artillery and mortar guns from Ghallanai, the headquarters of militancy-hit Mohmand Agency, and Mamad Gat FC Camp.
