Karachi: Activists of MQM, Amn committee among 10 killed
KARACHI: Ten people, including activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and People’s Amn Committee, were killed on Sunday as the recent spate of targeted violence continued in the city.
The Kalakot police received information that bodies of three young men in gunny bags were lying in the Ghas Mandi area. A police mobile rushed to the spot, found two bodies wrapped in a bedsheet while the third was in a gunny bag.
The police, after completing legal formalities, shifted the bodies to hospital. During investigations, it was found that some unidentified criminals had kidnapped the deceased from an unknown place and after brutally torturing them, killed them and dumped the bodies in the area.
Meanwhile, a family whose son had been missing reached the hospital and identified one of the deceased as Shahid alias Bali, who was abducted from the Baldia Town on Saturday night. The police handed over the body of Shahid to his family. Police said the deceased was an activist of MQM Unit-128, Baldia Town. They termed the murder of the three an act of targeted killings.
In a separate case, Mohammed Rafiq was shot dead in the Kalri police limits. Police said that the incident took place on Sunday morning in the Agra Taj Colony. They added that Rafiq was shot dead at his store in the colony by two men on a motorcycle on Sunday morning. The assailants fled after killing Rafiq. Police said that the murder seemed to be part of some personal enmity, but there were also reports that the deceased had also been a supporter of the Katchi Rabita Committee. The deceased left behind a widow and two children.
The Lyari Town police received information that some men had opened fire near the office of the Peoples Amn Committee (PAC) on Sunday afternoon in which seven people were injured. Police said that the firing incident happened in Chakiwara No 2, opposite to a petrol pump.
They added that on reaching the spot, they found seven people lying injured. The police and the area people shifted the injured to hospital. They added that a 65-year-old man, Imam Bux, died during treatment while the others, identified as Abdul Hameed, Yasir, Ghulam Rasool, Gulzar, Kashif, and Amir, survived.
Police said that the killed and injured were supporters of the PAC. They added that during investigation it was found that a young man, who was later identified as Jehanzeb, had shot the people after which he shot himself to death. Tension gripped the area after the incident.
In New Karachi, Ehsan alias Shah Sahib was shot dead. Police said that the deceased was present outside his house when two armed men on a motorcycle appeared, shot and injured Ehsan and fled. The residents of the locality rushed Ehsan to a hospital where he died. The deceased was a former activist of the MQM. He has left behind a widow and two children. Police termed the murder of Ehsan part of targeted killing.
Another activist of the MQM was found dead in the Kharadar police limits on Sunday morning. Police said that they received information that a body in a gunny bag was lying near the Sarafa Bazaar Gali in Kharadar. A police team reached the spot, retrieved the body and shifted it to hospital.
During examination and investigation, it was found that unidentified criminals had kidnapped the deceased from an unknown place, tortured and killed him. The criminals later packed his body in a gunny bag and threw it in the area. The relatives of the deceased identified him as Feroze Iqbal, a resident of Agra Taj Colony. Police said that the deceased was an activist of MQM’s Unit-136.
Meanwhile, the bullet-riddled body of an unidentified man was found in the Peerabad police limits. Police said that the body was found in Mohammedpur Chowki of Peerabad. In Manghopir area, Karim Bux tortured and bullet-riddled body was found from the Northern Bypass. Manghopir police said that the body had been lying at the bypass and the police, after completing formalities, shifted it to hospital. The deceased was a resident of Younus Mengal Goth in Manghopir and was missing since Friday night. He earlier resided in Lyari but due to some death threats had shifted to Manghopir. It seemed that he was killed over some enmity.
