Lahore: Fake encounter cops remanded
LAHORE: Model Town Judicial Magistrate Naeem Abbas on Monday sent to jail DSP Riasat Bajwa and three other police officials on 14-day judicial remand for his alleged involvement in a fake encounter.
On Monday, Nishtar Colony produced accused DSP Riasat Bajwa, sub-inspector Muhammad Riaz and two constables – Abdul Qadir and Muhammad Asif – before the court. Police informed the court that investigation of the case had been completed.
The court, sending accused to the jail, directed police to submit challan against the accused on the next hearing going to be held on July 4.
Three robbers, including Shehbaz Butt, stormed into a medical store at Yuhanabad late on last Friday. During their robbery, they looted Rs.35,000.
The owner of the store resisted and a scuffled started with Shehbaz. In the meantime, two other robbers fled away from the scene just as the brother of the owner arrived.
Shehbaz did aerial firing, however, the owner succeeded in capturing Shehbaz. Later two bikes of Muhafiz Squad arrived at the spot. Later, sub-inspector Riaz arrived at the spot and took Shehbaz in his custody and encountered him at Rohi Nala.
When hue and cry rose on media about the fake encounter, Principal Police Training School (PTS) Chung, DIG Major (r) Mubashir Ullah held an inquiry of the matter on the orders of the IG Punjab. A case was registered against the aforementioned four accused police officials under sections 302/34 and 109 of PPC.
Nishtar Colony Police had claimed that the robber had opened indiscriminate firing on police party, which had led to police encounter.
