Lahore: 2 women among 12 killed in city
LAHORE: Around 12 persons, including two women, were killed in separate incidents across the provincial capital on Saturday. In the first incident, a man shot dead his niece and two brothers-in-law in Naulakha and Cantonment areas over a property dispute.
Police said that the accused, Muhammad Khalid, demanded his sisters, one living in Naulakha and two in Cantonment, to give him share from the inherited property, but all of them refused to divide the property.
Resultantly, he started nursing grudge against them. On the day of the incident, he first reached house of his sister in Naulakha and shot and wounded her two daughters Faiza, 24, and Hina, 22. Both the sisters were rushed to Mayo Hospital where Faiza succumbed to her wounds.
Later, the accused reached Tufail Road in Cantonment. There he shot dead his brother-in-laws Mazhar Saeed and Khurshid Anwar.
In the second incident, a 40-year-old man was shot dead by some unidentified persons within the precincts of Ghalib Market police station. It was suspected that the victim, Tariq of Hussainabad, was murdered by robbers on putting up resistance. However, police claimed that the victim was killed over some other matter. On the day of the incident, Tariq was asleep in the courtyard of his house when some unidentified persons stalked him and shot him dead, police said.
In the third incident, a father of four was electrocuted within the jurisdiction of Johar Town police station. The victim was identified as Mirza Sajid Baig, 35, an electrician, and resident of Johar Town.
Police said the victim was repairing a water motor when he accidentally touched live electric wires and received severe electric shocks. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
In the fourth incident, a couple mounted on a bicycle was killed by a rashly driven bus in the jurisdiction of Race Course police station. The deceased were identified as Saleem and his wife Maryam. Police said that both husband and wife were on their way on a bicycle when a speeding bus hit them from behind near the Jail Road underpass.
Locals rushed the injured to a nearby hospital with the help of Rescue 1122. Maryam, however, died on way to the hospital, while Saleem succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Similarly, a 35-year-old man was knocked down by a speeding tractor within the limits of Hadyara police station. The deceased was identified as Ashraf of Hair village. Police said the victim was taken to a hospital where he expired.
In another incident, a 60-year-old man was crushed to death by a speeding truck in the jurisdiction of Manga Mandi police station. The deceased was identified as Rehmat Ali. Police said the victim was crossing Multan Road when a speeding truck hit him. Some locals of the area rushed him to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Also, a 55-year-old man was knocked down by a rashly driven car in Shadman police station area.
Police said that the deceased was crossing a road near Services Hospital when a speeding car hit him and vanished from the sight.
Meanwhile, two unidentified men were found dead under mysterious circumstances in the jurisdiction of Bhatti Gate and Lower Mall police stations.
